What should you know about Germany before you go there? Germany is a beautiful country that, despite a dark past, has evolved into a liberal and inviting space with lots to do and see. But while Germany is very westernized in many areas. There are an equal amount of areas in which it is very different. Today we will be going over some of these differences and things you should know about Germany before you travel to the land of Beer.

  • This is a cash society. While Germany might be known for being a world leader in technologies, they have a very old way of paying for things. Many places that you might expect to take card simply don’t. So make sure to always have cash on you.
  • Germany is NOT flush with free washrooms. Most places like restaurants or even train stations will often charge you a small fee to use the washroom so make sure you’re prepared to pay if you have to go. This reminds this author of a Broadway play with a similar premise.
  • Germans are punctual, but you knew that. Everything about German culture is punctual. This also includes their public transit system which will not wait for you running to catch it down the street. If you’re not usually punctual you will want to take many extra precautions in Germany.
