Everywhereist
Everywhereist’s, Geraldine DeRuiters, husband has a job that takes him around the world. So, after being laid off, she decided the best thing for her would be to tag along with him. Her deciding to accompany him ended up being the best decision of her life as she was able to turn it into a famous blog. She started this blog to help her husband remember “where they’ve been and what they’ve seen”, as Time Magazine reports on “The best blogs of 2011 of the ‘The Everywhereist.'”
This “consistently clever” and “dark and hilarious” travel blog encapsulates the woes of traveling with her husband through humorous takes on life, feminism, and food. On top of all of this, Geraldine writes travel guides with in depth information. Within these travel guides, one may find sections of what to see and do and where to eat, shop, wander, drink, and stay. She has even written a book documenting her experiences traveling with themes of adventure and love.
The blog doesn’t prioritize traveling but rather the comical experiences she had while traveling far away or even around her home. With a more personal storytelling like approach, the blog does not disappoint in giving readers laughs while still inspiring them to go out, explore, and share their experiences with her as well.
She writes about dozens of categories, ranging from city guides, attractions all the way to her complaints about random things like hotels and certain candies. The Everywhereist seemingly covers it all, even adding in tips on how to survive long flights and roadtrips. Additionally, she gives great advice on products to buy that she herself adores during her travels. Lastly, Geraldine often shares her favorite books and productions that she personally relates to on her travels to help out her loyal followers.
This wonderful blog encompasses her path, at times with her husband, of getting lost and found, finding new places, sharing new experiences, and staying at places previously unimaginable (many through her husbands work related travel trips alone).
